You now know how to test a green claim against a second look, and how to judge whether a purchase earns its emissions. The last piece is turning those judgements into a one-page plan with dates, costs, and a number you can check every month. That page is what this lesson builds.

By the end you will be able to:
- read your own bills and meter readings to find where money and emissions really sit
- score any candidate action on upfront cost, annual CO2e saved, and annual bill saved
- sequence actions so the cheap wins fund the bigger ones
- fit the result onto one page with a start date and a review point

## Where the Money and the Emissions Actually Sit

For most households both land in the same four places: heating and hot water, food, transport, and stuff (shopping plus waste). The ranking of those four matters less than one fact: repeated costs beat one-off purchases. A habit you run 300 times a year will usually out-earn a gadget you buy once.

So measure before you shop. One week of meter readings and a look at last year's bills gives you numbers good enough to plan with. Most people guess wrong about which room, appliance, or habit costs them the most.

| Where to look | What to record | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Electricity bill | annual kWh and your tariff | price per kWh turns every saving into money |
| Gas or other heating | annual kWh or litres | usually the biggest bill line in cold climates |
| Water bill | cubic metres per quarter | hot water is paid for twice, once as water, once as energy |
| Food | weekly spend and what you bin | waste is a purchase you paid for and never used |

> **Warning:**
> Treat every number here as a planning estimate, not a measurement. Emission factors and prices differ by region and supplier. Swap in your own tariff and your local grid factor before you promise yourself a saving.
