Last lesson you took one piece of material and re-pitched it for a meeting, a pitch, and a stage. Now you pick the stage version, lock it, and record it. Nothing new gets invented today. You are shipping.

Here is what almost every first recording teaches you: the talk you rehearsed in your head is 40 percent too long, and the first 30 seconds are throat-clearing. That is normal. This lesson is the fix, in a fixed order, in 70 minutes.

## Your Deliverable: One Talk, Five Minutes, One Message

You are building a single recorded video, five minutes maximum, that a stranger can watch with no context and repeat back to you in one sentence.

That last part is the whole game. Steve Jobs opened the 2005 Stanford address with, "Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories." Three sentences, and the audience already knows the contract: three stories, I can follow this, it will end. Your opening does the same job at smaller scale.

Before you record anything, write your message as one sentence with a subject, a verb, and a stake.

**Exercise 1 (5 minutes).** Draft three candidate one-liners, then pick one.

## The Spec Sheet

A five-minute talk is a machine with five parts. Fill this table before you write a word of script.

| Beat | Clock | The job it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cold open | 0:00 to 0:15 | An image, a number, or a question. No "hi, my name is." |
| Turn | 0:15 to 0:50 | Why this matters now, and what is at stake. |
| Story | 0:50 to 2:20 | One personal anecdote, three beats: setup, trouble, turn. |
| Evidence | 2:20 to 3:30 | Two proofs, not five. A number and an example. |
| Close | 3:30 to 5:00 | Call back to the opening image, then one clear ask. |
